September 11th will always be a hard day. Those images, those stories, will always echo. The chaos and fear of that day, as reports came in and we watched the horror unfold, not knowing what would come next. And then the devastating hope—the signs for the missing posted all over lower Manhattan, the thousands who lined up to donate blood that, it turned out, wasn’t needed.

At the same time, the outpouring of support and unity that followed that horrible day continues to inspire me: The firefighters and other emergency workers who travelled hundreds of miles to help, the creation of the 9/11 Fund, the world condemning the attack and standing with us as we rebuilt. Today, let us remember those we lost, and strive to emulate that strength in unity.
