We are nearing the end of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and before we leave it, I want to raise a few points.
If you work with people, you are probably working with victims of domestic violence. Domestic violence doesn’t stay in the home; it touches every place survivors and abusers go–putting them and everyone they work with at risk. A history of domestic violence is also one of the best indicators we have that someone may go on to commit a mass shooting. Futures Without Violence has some great tools for those who want to develop training and policies.
You can also reach out to me at kate[at]blackbird-dc.com for training, policy help, or to discuss these or any other sensitive issues you’re facing. Thanks for your attention to this important issue.
If the victim and abuser work at the same workplace, do not schedule both employees to work at the same time or location wherever possible.
